Comfort zone & it’s science
We all hear about how important it is to step outside of your comfort zone! We hear about the growth and expansion that becomes even more possible outside of our norm, the familiar and our routine. The end result seems wonderful and something we perhaps yearn for, yet it’s the getting there that can feel quite the opposite, it can feel challenging and fear provoking. Yet, deep down you know that this step outside of your box to what you’ve always done is here for your greatest good and expansion. You know, that this is what you get to do for yourself.
As a person who has been there, ready to take the leap but perhaps afraid, I have found it extremely comforting to know that this is all a natural part of being human. Perhaps the fear and doubt are instead wonderful signs that I am on my path.
Our amazing brains and therefore bodies because it’s really all connected, are simply doing their job, wired to keep us safe, they are ensuring we remain within our safe zone. It just happens to be that our brains' version of safety is familiarity. Anything outside of our norm becomes unsafe and we instantly resort back to comfort and what we know. So we acknowledge these parts for completing their role in keeping us safe. That beautiful aware part of us then recognises that although I’m safe within my comfort zone, this comfort zone of mine isn’t exactly always the healthiest choice for me and does not expand me towards my highest evolution.
To be a human, means to evolve. That is how we have made it into this world we now live in and perhaps with this gift of awareness, you are able to grant yourself with that little bit more compassion. This truly is psychology and physiology at play, you are safe and allowed to lean into your edge.
A gentle hand of encouragement may be to hear the voice of concern and practice being with the sensation of fear. Rather than resist and argue with these parts, let them know that they are heard and seen. Understand that they come from a place of love and protection.
Be bold. Be courageous. Be YOU.
